From China to the Charles, Racing for a Cleaner Tomorrow

For the Global Canal Rowing Club (GCRC), the race is about more than crossing the finish line—it’s a movement toward a sustainable future.

Global Canal Rowing Action (GCRA), the driving force behind GCRC, launched a “Zero Carbon, Clean Water,” campaign at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, using rowing to highlight the importance of protecting waterways and reducing carbon emissions.

The campaign is built on three core pillars. “The first one is promoting rowing as a healthy sport, the second is the global sustainability campaign and the third is the human connection with water,” said Ken Lee, co-founder of GCRA and former Secretary General of the Asian Rowing Federation.

Northeastern’s Code of Student Conduct, demonstration policies updated with stricter measures following year of pro-Palestine protests

Following a year of tense campus protests and demonstrations, Northeastern has implemented several additional demonstration and student conduct guidelines, which impose more strict regulations on on-campus protests and more severe sanctions for students found in violation of university policies.
Per Northeastern’s 2024-25 Code of Student Conduct, the university can now withhold or revoke certain students’ degrees or deny expelled students refunds of tuition, housing, board or other charges.

Jemele Hill: How Sports Journalists Can Be a Beacon for Social Consciousness

The landscape of sports journalism is defined by an emphasis on entertainment rather than a need for social consciousness. Sports media has routinely prioritized sensational stories and game highlights over an in-depth analysis of social issues, due to the constant demand for a broad audience appeal. Jemele Hill, a pioneering sports journalist, has instead decided to use her platform to address critical social issues, thereby redefining the role of sports journalism in contemporary media.

Op-ed: Silencing Palestinian student groups goes against university ideals – and the history of student protests

Amid the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, university campuses across the United States have become grounds for ideological battles in the form of protests and demonstrations, particularly in the college city of Boston. The rise in protests, notably by pro-Palestinian groups, has provoked intense arguments and, in some cases, incidents of retaliation and hatred by opposing groups, calling the entire nature of these demonstrations into question.

Boston’s Paradoxical Struggle with Doctor’s Appointment Delays

Imagine this: dialing your primary health care provider’s office to schedule a visit for a medical issue, only to be told that there are no appointments available for the next 18 months.
This may seem far-fetched, but it is the reality for many Boston residents. The city is home to some of the best hospitals anywhere: Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Medical Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital among them, and thousands of doctors. And yet, Boston has one of the longest wait times in the country for doctor appointments in the country, according to a 2022 Merritt Hawkins study on physician wait times.
